8/7/07-
General Offshore - Offshore fishing continues to stay hot.
Last week the Git Er Dun managed to get into some of the
blackfin tuna behind some shrimpers. The impressive thing
was that some of these blackfin were between 25-28lbs. He
also got a handful of ling, a shark, and a couple of chicken
dolphin. Overall, the meat/bottom fishing has been very
good. Boats that have been trolling have been catching
numerous dolphin and wahoo on weedlines from 70 -300 fathoms.
Billfishing boats have been reporting enormous amounts of bait
just about everywhere. It looks like we could be getting
into a breat billfish bite for the next couple of months as long
as the weather holds out.
Down south
at TIFT the fishing was a bit slow. It did seem that there
were a fair amount of white marlin being caught. There was
a lot of grass offshore the canyons, so there will be plenty of
weedlines in the future off of Port Aransas. I fished on
the Cherokee and below is a picture of the white marlin that we
released.
7/31/07
- General Offshore- After a wet start to the summer,
the fishing has been nothing short of excellent the last few
weeks. The captains have been catching just about every
species available. Both Iced Down and High Bid
have stated that fishing is wide open. On yesterday's
trip, Aaron Chambers on the High Bid caught good "turkey"
dolphin, limits of kings, snapper, ling and blackfin tuna
behind some of the working shrimp boats. Capt. Nate
on the Iced Down has been seeing some similar catches.
Nate also fished the Rockport Offshore Challenge and managed to
catch a sailfish, white marlin and missed 3 other billfish.
He also weighed in a 53lb kingfish, tuna, wahoo, snapper and dolphin.

Butch
Findley on the El Gato brought in 180lbs of dolphin
last week on a solid troliing trip. That seems to be what
a lot of the boats have been having luck with, probably due to
the amount of grass and rips offshore. One weedline that
has been very productive for decent dolphin and kingfish has
been as close as 15 miles. The water is reported to be
very nice in shore as well as offshore.
The shrimp
boats have been producing some blackfin tuna and the charters
are taking advantage of it. The charters have been getting
their chum from the inshore boats at anchor, and then hitting up
the dragging boats offshore.
It seems
like the bill fishing finally hit full stride this last week for
the ROC. There were many blue and sails caught with some
whites thrown in. The billfish were caught just about
everywhere, from Dutra to the fairway to Colt and as far as the
floater 120 miles off of South Padre. There were also a
large number of big dolphin (30lbs+) brought in with the winning
dolphin being 52lbs. The large wahoo came in at 63lbs.
The large Yellowfin was caught by the Wet & Ready at
167lbs, heck of a catch.
There are
now 2 more very nice boats that are available to charter, the Mo Azul
(43' Cabo) and the Wet & Ready (47' Riviera). Some
pictures of the Mo Azul's last charter are below.
Check out
offshore boats for info.

General
Inshore - The bay fishing has been overall good with
its usual ups and downs. With all of the rain earlier in
the summer, the guides have been looking for some good water.
Talking with the guides, it seems that it is improving.
The most recent reports have been of good catches of trout.
I know that some of the guides who normally knock off their red
limits are targeting trout right now. With the summer
pattern in full swing, the guides are ready to get out into the
surf for some exciting fishing.
Jackson
Hole- Made a trip up to Jackson Hole for a friend's wedding
and had a chance to try some fly fishing. What a wonderful
time, it was my first time with the fly and it was a blast.
We went out with Matt Elliott of
Westbank Anglers and he put us
in great water on the whole float. He was also very good
in helping a beginner like me. We ended up releasing about
15 native Snake river Cutthroats up to 16 inches. Give me
a call if you have any questions about the area. I would
also highly encourage a trip to Yellowstone National Park.

6/18/07
- General Offshore- Good reports from the offshore
boats. There seems to be something for everyone. Red
snapper fishing has been good and the kingfish are moving in
closer now. A lot of boats catching them at the anchorage
and even a report of a some caught at the 3rd buoy. There
have also been many ling caught in close as well, so hit those
weed patches and rigs to get you some. In the deeper
water, the wahoo have been the story, lots of "wee-hoos" with
some larger ones thrown in. Do not let the green water scare you
(green to Falcon) there are plenty of fish and bait past
the rigs in the green water. It seems that the blue water
is out around Dutra and the Dumps. One boat reported a
major color change in about 200 fathoms. Cherokee has been
out a couple of times with some good results.
Captain Tray has brought in some large wahoo, AJ's, dolphin,
tuna and seen a couple of blues. The High Bid has been
bringing in wahoo, ling, barracuda, dog snapper, red snapper and
chicken dolphin. The Git Er Dun has been very successful
this year as well, Capt. Jim Harmon always seems to get on the
fish,The boats are ready to fish and the weatehr is looking
good, so call to set up a trip. PICTURES BELOW.
Inshore
Fishing- The bay fishing has been fairly consistent with reports
of a variety of different species being caught. I have had
a few guides catch limits of trout one day and then get there
reds the next day. Redfish seem to be the predominant
species overall. One bay guide did catch a shark and
kingfish at the jetties this week when it was nice.
5/31/07
- General Offshore - The offshore season is in full
swing. There have been many reports of wahoo being caught
on some of the trips that are going out further. Most of
the fish have been found around pods of grass or floating
objects. There has not been a problem with finding
weedlines, but the problem is that sometimes there can be too
much grass to be able to troll how you would like to..
The bottom fishing has been producing snapper and amberjack as
long as the current is not too strong, as it was last weekend.
There have been a couple of billfish seen and it won't be long
before we get some good numbers caught. There are still a
lot of openings for the boats, but now that school is out, they
won't last long.
General
Inshore - The trips have still been successful with trout
and reds coming into the docks. There was a large amount
of water in the bays which made it a little more difficult for
the guides to pinpoint where the fish were. Wadefishermen
better keep an eye out in the deeper water, a 513 lb Bull shark
was caught in the Lydia Ann Channel off Mud Island last week.
4/23/07
- General Offshore- Snapper season has started and the boats
are bringing in their limits. We are getting into the
transition period for summer and looking at last years reports,
the fishing should be getting better and better with the warmer
weather and water making its way into the area. This is
the time to be looking for some weedlines and picking up some
ling, wahoo and chicken dolphin in some of the deeper waters.
Nate on the Iced Down reported catches of numerous
grouper, some African Pompano, limits of amberjack and of course
snapper. He has not seen any kings or sharks recently.
Quepos,
Costa Rica - What a trip we had. We made it down there
for a week and managed to catch sailfish, a couple of blue
marlin, big mahi mahi, roosterfish, cubera snapper, grouper and
a few other species. The best was that for a good number
of the group, it was their first billfish. One of the
girls even caught here first Blue and first sail on the same
day...she thinks it is easy now. Here are some pics.
Shoot me an email if you have any questions about Costa Rica or
if you are interested in making a trip down there.

General
Inshore- Redfish seem to be getting thicker out in the
flats. I had some reports of limits and numerous releases
from some of the captains. Capt. Frank Eicholz caught 19 reds
(released once hit limit) on one trip along with a 26.5
inch trout. HE also saw a school of jackfish up in the
flats last week tormenting the baitfish. Sounds like it is
almost summer.
4/02/07- General Offshore- Lots of different fish being
caught over the last month. There were a few shrimp boats
out near the rocks holding quite a bit of tuna, but have since
left. It seems like the most recent trips have had most
success at snapper (state) and lots of ling moving through in
"shallower" waters. Both Iced Down and High Bid
have been out regularly and have had overall good success as
long as the weather does not dictate fishing.
General
Inshore - All of the guides are reporting more consistent
fishing the last couple of weeks. Mark Jones
had limits of redfish over the weekend and also started to catch
some nice trout. One trout was 26". The guides have
been mentioning lots of bait starting to show up, so things will
be in full swing any day now.
3/07/07 -
General Offshore- The wahoo bite is beginning to
materialize at Baker and Southern. Iced Down had a
day that the captain claimed was one of the craziest days of
fishing he has experienced. They caught limits of
amberjack, a couple of African pompano, grouper, kingfish,
jackfish, and wahoo. They had a 300lb mako by the boat
eating on there wahoo but could not get a hook in it. On a
triple hook up, the last bait was being reeled in when a 50lb
wahoo went airborne and landed on the transom and was
"teetering" but went back to where she came from. They
ended up with 7 wahoo that went 30-50lbs each, with 3 others
ending up in the Mako's belly. The boats have
been getting out there whenever the weather has cooperated and
they have been producing. The offshore boats have been
booking up fast for the summer, so call early so you are not
left at the dock.
Got a
report yesterday 3/06/07 from a group in Costa Rica.
It looks like the sails have finally shown up. Robert
"El Rey" Hart and his father had to call it quits early after
releasing 15 sails between the two of them. Looks like
three days of that may wear them out. I think they are
looking forward to there round on the golf course. Pura
Vida!!
Inshore is
starting to heat up. The warmer temperatures will get
these fish moving and feeding. The fishing has been up and
down, but that is fishing. The guides are getting ready
for the trout to move back in to add to there redfish that they
have been catching
2/21/07
- General Offshore - Not a whole lot of boats going out due
to the weather in the last week. Looking back at last year
at this time, you can expect to fish for kingfish, wahoo, tuna,
amberjack and some grouper. If you can time the weather,
the fishing can be very rewarding.
Isla
Mujeres, Mexico (Cancun)- The season is in full swing with
the docks full of sportfishing boats. Some reports of days
with 50+ bites from sailfish. The best part is that it is
only about a 10 mile run to the fishing grounds. We got
one day in on a quick trip and went 7 for 14 on sails. If
you want an easy trip with great fishing, give a call for
details.

General Inshore-
There have been some reports of some decent
catches of redfish. One from Capt. Frank Eicholz, he
caught three limits of redfish while releasing numerous
undersized. The tides have been low so the guides have
been fishing the drop offs. With the improving weather and
return of higher tides, the fishing should only improve.
2/07/07
- General Offshore - Iced Down made it out during this
window of decent weather. The group was rewarded with
wahoo, amberjack and some grouper. The largest of the
wahoo went 47 pounds with a handful of others averaging about
30lbs. He also caught limits of amberjack up to 30lbs.
On the way in, they stopped to get their state water snapper
limits too. Git Er Dun made it out as well and
found a couple of wahoo, one of which was greater than 50lbs.
They also managed to hook a 35lb dolphin. The most
difficult part of the trip was staying away from the kinfish and
jackfish.
General
Bay- The weather has not been favorable in the bay as well.
A few guides have been going out and have had to work hard for
their catch. The weather is starting to warm up which will
get the fish active again.
Flounder
start heading back into the bays in a few weeks and it is
usually a good time to get out. During the spring,
sheephead and black drum are also more numerous if you want to
go out and gig .
1/30/07 - General Offshore - Happy new year
to everyone!! Not a whole lot of fishing going on due to
the weather, but when the boats have been going out, they have
been catching. There have been a few scattered reports of wahoo
at Southern and Baker rigs. But this last weekend, those
spots were covered up with kingfish and jackfish. Capt.
Nate on the Iced Down went out and couldn't get away from the
kingfish while trolling. He also managed to get a few
amberjack up to 35 lbs and some state water snapper.
I am
starting to get a few reports from down south. It looks
like the sailfish are starting to turn on in Isla Mujeres with
the Let It Ride releasing 20+ on the troll a couple of days ago.
Just wait until they start schooling up. The Royal Flush
should be down there in a couple of days as well as a few other
local boats.
The seasons
in Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Panama are also in full stride and
will continue to be hot through May.
8/7/06 -
General Offshore - Thought I would get out a
Port Aransas Fishing Report before everyone went back to
school. Sorry about the delay, but things have been non
stop. In the last few weeks since the last report, the
shrimpers seem to dictate the fishing offshore. All of the
boats on the 8 hour deep sea fishing trips seem to be hitting
the the shrimp boats for kingfish, ling, sharks, and chicken
dolphin. There have also been numerous reports of sailfish
around a lot of the boats. When you can find a shrimper in
deeper water, the blackfin tuna have been the catch.
Snapper has also seen a comeback on a lot of the trips with Iced
Down throwing in some good Dog snapper too. All of the
Port Aransas fishing boats have been very consistent. On
the trolling side, the weedlines are becoming a little bit more
scarce. Talking with the boats from the last weekend, most
of the fish caught were in close, just offshore the rocks.
A lot of boats fished the Texas International Fishing Tournament
T.I.F.T. with Ambush catching an impressive 71lb wahoo, only to
be outdone by an 80lb monster on Saturday. This time last
year, the fairway started to get hot with pods of bait being the
thing to look for on the depth machine. Something unusual
has been happening offshore the past few weeks, SWORDFISH.
I have heard of at least 6 boats that have managed to bring one
to the boat. It seems that with the improved
technology, more boats have the capability to stay overnight and
fish for these nocturnal beasts. Remember, it is not known
just how the population is doing , so if you don't have to kill
it, get a picture and let it go...and remember "no light,
no bite."
General
Inshore - I have been hearing the guides talking about a fairly
solid trout bite, and a good redfish bite with the incoming
tide. This is the time of year the guides like to get out
in the surf to catch some of those fat trout. There have
also been reports of tarpon starting to show up in good numbers
at the jetties.
7/17/06
- General Offshore- All I can say about the offshore
fishing is FANTASTIC! Since the last report, the rain has
subsided along with the seas. The weather has been calm
and hot, just like the fishing. During the Deep Sea
Roundup, the billfish bite was "in close" at about
50-80 fathoms. There were large schools of bait in the
cooler water along with sails and blues. Some notable
catches were from the Hook 'Em with two Blues and a sail
released on day two. Outacontrol also released 2 blues and
a sail as well as jumping off a sail. Coco Mialjo caught a
blue and 4 sails. Madera, Bottom Dollar and
Francesca all released two blues. It seems that there were
about 20-25 blues caught and roughly the same number of sails
over the weekend. The meat fish catches were very good
with a 59lb wahoo taking top honors, and a 45 lb dolphin took
first place. Cherokee did not fish the roundup, but did
catch 3 blue marlin over the weekend, with one of the releases
looking well over 400lbs.

This last
weekend's featured tournament was the POCO BUENO. Congrats
to "Hot Rod" for taking first place with a 583lb and a
311lb blue marlin weighed. Most of the fish were caught at
the deep water rigs Tequila, Cerveza rigs, Little Sister,
Gunnison, Diana... A few fish were caught around Falcon
and Baker too. One report of a spearfish released on the Seay
Goddess, I am working on pics to confirm the report, just to
make sure it wasn't post POCO festivities affecting Eddie's
story.

Reports of
some very nice rips near north Baker to Falcon produced many
dolphin and wahoo for the Reel Easy.
Temptation
reported a good weed line inshore southern that produced
some dolphin and jumped a sailfish on it. He also reported
that the inshore kingfish bite is hot.
The Git
Er Dun has been having great success with kingfish, ling,
sharks, some snapper, spanish mackeral and even caught a
sailfish.
The Fishin
Impossible had a successful weekend catching kingfish,
dolphin, ling, snapper, jackfish and had a sailfish come looking
but not taking.
Iced
Down continues to have good trips out. Nate and Jamie
have been bringing in wahoo and dolphin to compliment their
kings, lings, snapper and grouper.
General
Bay - Once again the guides have been able to get out past
the jetties and have been adding kingfish to their stringers of
reds and trout. The trout have been coming from the surf,
and the reds from the flats. It has been very still and
hot so be ready with plenty of fluids and sunscreen.
Rumors of tarpon rolling at the jetties are starting to come in,
I will have to check it out...all work no play, what am I to do.
7/6/06-
General offshore - The pictures below pretty much sum up how
the last week of fishing has been. Some boats have been
making it out dodging the storms. Iced Down reported that
he had one of his better weeks with large amberjack at the
deeper rigs and also caught a 65 grouper along with a sailfish
at the rocks. Kings have been thick just about
everywhere. The Deep Sea Roundup is this weekend, so there
should be a whole lot of fishing reports/stories next
week.
General
Bay - The guides have been fighting the weather as well, but
they have been doing very well when they get a chance to
fish. I have heard different reports from different
guides. Some are catching reds in the flats, others are
catching trout in the surf. Still a few kingfish around
the jetties as well.

6/26/06
- General offshore- The offshore fishing
continues to be red hot this past week with calm weather and
cooperating fish. Once again the kings moved in to
jetties. The shorter trips have been consistent with the
kingfish, sharks and snapper. The boats getting out
further have added dorado and wahoo. The billfish trips
have had great success with good catches of dolphin and wahoo
along with some billfish releases. There have been a large
amount of billfish caught along weedlines from 85 fathoms to
offshore Dutra.
Meat Haul-
Huge congratulations to the Meat Haul crew catching a GRAND
SLAM Saturday going 3 for 7 on billfish. They caught
the white and sail early and finished with the blue in the
afternoon. It was extra nice for Dave Sullivan who caught
all three himself, making it a personal slam!!!!!
Cherokee-
Congratulations in order to the Cherokee who are champions of
the Masters Invitational. Releasing two blues at Tequila
to take top honors!
Temptation
- Had a great billfish trip Sunday with a released sailfish, 5
wahoo and 6 dolphin up to 38 lbs.
Iced
Down - Still going strong with great catches of snapper,
kings, sharks and ling nearshore. They seem to bring
in wahoo on about every trip as well. Thet have been
catching more dolphin and wahoo on the longer trips.
Git Er Dun
- Capt Jim is up to his usual self bring in 350lbs of meat on
one of his trips this last weekend. It included shark,
kingfish, snapper, ling and some dolphin.
Reel Easy-
Talk about the one that got away...well sort of, before the Reel
Easy made it out Saturday, Greg went online and entered the STAR
tournament, unfortunately his buddy Jason Albrecht did
not. Below is a picture of a weighed 45lb dolphin which I
believe would be in first. Too bad that the Contender got
away.

General
inshore- With
the light winds, the guides have been able to fish around
the jetties for kingfish with great success. Capt. Frank
Eicholz had limits on two trips in one day. When they are
not fishing the jetties. The reds have been schooling up
because of the low tides. If you can find them, you can
catch them quickly.
6/20/06
- General Offshore- The weather can't seem to make up
its mind right now. We had two amazing weeks of good
weather followed by some of the roughest four days anyone would
want to be out on. It does look like the forecast is
excellent for this weekend. Before the weekend blow, there
were some fish caught just about everywhere. The jetties
were holding kingfish, most of the bay guides were taking
advantage by bringing in limits of kings along with
redfish. Charlie Barrett of C&T charters caught a 41lb
ling at the 3rd buoy. Further offshore, a solid rip
inshore Falcon was producing blues, wahoo and dolphin. It
seems that the bite is in about 150 fathoms, so keep an eye out
for anything that looks fishy.
Ambush -
Capt. Dennis has been having great success trolling
the blue. Last week he made it out and released 1 blue
marlin and jumped another and had a third in the baits.
Also on the trip, a sailfish released, yellowfin tuna, dolphin
and wahoo. That makes for a second week in a row that he
has released a blue.
Cherokee
- Went offshore this last week and brought back wahoo and
dolphin. They spent a some time going after the AJ's but
couldn't keep the sharks off the baits. Below are some
pics from the previous weeks trip (see report below)
Iced
Down - Nate had a great trip before the winds picked
up. He released a blue, and brought back a boatload of
wahoo, a dolphin, huge AJ grouper ....

Temptation
- The Temptation is back on the water with Capt. Brian
Cibulka. He made his maiden voyage on the Temptation this
week in some rough seas. He managed to keep the customers
busy with some amberjack, ling, kingfish and red snapper.
His dates are wide open right now, so if you want to get out,
call before he gets booked up.
General
Inshore - The guides were doing well when the weather was
cooperating. With the light winds a lot of the guides were
targeting trout from the wells to the beaches. As
mentioned above, quite a few got into the kingfish bite
around the jetties when the weather permitted. Once the
wind picked up, they went back to bringing in plenty of redfish.
6/12/06
- General offshore - I think I could copy last weeks report
and there wouldn't be too many differences. If you have
ever wanted to get a good shot at a blue marlin now is
the time. There were many caught this last week by both
charter boats and private boats. Just about everywhere was
hot, most fish caught seemed to be in and around Dutra.
There are some good weedlines holding bait. Other fish
seemed to be caught in the open water with nothing significant
holding them. The snapper came on strong this week for
those on the 8 hours trips. Kingfish are solid just about
everywhere, including the jetties. Report of one guide
said he saw a free jumping sail on the outgoing tide line 2
miles off the jetty. Rumor has it that one guide caught a
51lb wahoo at the ships 7 miles off the jetties. The weather for
the week looks great. Check out all the pics below.
Ambush -
Besides catching red snapper, dog snapper, ling and kingfish
on his 8 hour charters, Capt. Dennis got a chance to go find the
man in the blue suit. He found him inshore the Dumps in
120 fathoms. He also got some good dolphin on a weedline.

Cherokee
- Heck of a week for the crew on the Cherokee and
their charters. On Friday, they went deep and it paid
off. They caught a first blue marlin for customer Brian
Schaffer along with a couple of 30lb yellowfin, wahoo, snapper,
dolphin and baracuda. He then followed up a successful
billfish trip with a meat haul the next day with 230lbs of fish
which included good sow snapper, kingfish triggerfish, shark and
what appears to be 7,354 chicken dolphin.

High Bid
- They mixed up the trips as well this week and saw good
action both bottom fishing and trolling. On the shorter
trips they brought back kings, sharks some good sized ling and
snapper. On the billfish trip, they got into some
yellowfin around a whale shark and brought in a 36.5 lb dolphin
and some wahoo.
Iced
down- It is starting to sound redundant, but when it comes
to catching fish, that is a good thing. The Iced Down has
been having a tremendous year. They have been consistent
on the shorter trips with kings, ling, and snapper. On a
12 hour trip, they got on a rip inside Falcon and pulled out a
handful of wahoo and dolphin. They even got the attention
of a blue marlin that wanted to check out their wahoo next to
the boat.
Royal
Flush - Capt. Richard Stiers had his shakedown run on
Saturday. Quite a trip it was. He ended up releasing
3 out of 4 blue marlin and also released a
sailfish. He started about 75 fathoms and found a grass
line and stayed with it for his success. He said they
marlin were about 100lbs, and the other two were about
200lbs. Congrats on a great day.
Outta
Control - Fished from Dutra to the Dumps and caught a 20lb
dolphin, 25 lb wahoo and a blue marlin in about 160 fathoms.

General
Inshore - The calm weather has been good for the trout
fishing. Some of the guides are running the beach catching
trout when it is calm. They are also bringing out some
bigger rigs to catch some of the kingfish around the
jetties. In the bays, the bite sems to be a late one with
the outgoing tide right now.
6/6/06 -
General Offshore- Summer is here and it has been
beautiful. This last week made up for all the wind during
may. I think every boat made it out this last weekend with
excellent results. The 8 hour trips were catching
kingfish, snapper, ling, wahoo, dolphin and sharks. As far
as billfishing, it is on!!! Most boats that spent the day
trolling got into something with a stick on its nose. I
would guess that about 8-10 blues were caught, same amount of
sails and even a few white marlin. Most boats saw at least
2 billfish and many blues were jumped off. A lot of the
action, including billfish bycatch (tuna, wahoo, dolphin) was
around the rocks from Southern to Baker. There
were also releases at Dutra and the Dumps. Even though
there were no significant rips, there was a lot of bait being
reported "shallow". The Meat Haul is trying to
get their third STAR winning dolphin by starting the season with
a 42.2lb bull. THe weather for the rest of the week looks
tremendous, so if you got the itch, pull the trigger and get on
down here.
Iced
Down- Another solid week of fishing for Capt. Nate and
mate Jaime. Most of the trips were 8 hours and he managed
to catch limits of snapper, kingfish, some ling, bull tiger
sharks, and some good sized wahoo. He even wore out one
charter before the eight hours and got to the dock early for an
afternoon siesta.
High Bid
- Capt. Aaron has been tormenting the fish out there all
week long. On the shorter trips, he has been hammering the
kingfish and shark along with red snapper, ling, and chicken
dolphin. On a 12hr, he caught all those listed above along
with an 9 foot hammerhead (released) and raised a sailfish.

Cherokee
- Had a fun filled day on the water
catching red snapper and a large wahoo.

General
Bay - The guides have been doing well this last week under
difficult conditions due to the heavy rains leading into the
light winds. According to Capt. Frank Eicholz the
redfish have been solid as long as you have the correct
bait. He has been switching from mullet to perch to
menhaden to get them on the line. Some of the guides have
been doing well catching trout when croaker is available. Capt.
Ralph Ray reported numerous oversized redfish at the jetties
using menhaden for bait.
Flounder
Gigging - Maybe you have not thought about it, but all three
of the flounder boats were out with trips this last weekend and
did extremely well. Capt. Max had two limits for
his couple celebrating their anniversary. Capt. Gerry gigged
15 but saw about 15 more that got away. Capt. Tray even
made it out between offshore trips and got his charter 26.
So when the conditions are favorable, the fish are out
there. These guys can also go out of the Rockport area.
5/30/06
- General Offshore- Looks like the weather pattern is
finally changing with lighter winds this week and isolated
storms. This weekend was still a little bit bumpy ofshore.
The boats still made it out and caught limits of red snapper and
kingfish with a few sharpnose sharks on the 8 hour trips.
Cherokee made it out for a 36 hour trip. He was able to
load up on many different species. He made it out to the
east breaks and Dutra but did not report on any weedlines out
that direction. There are also reports that the kingfish
have moved in, yet another sign that summer is here. All the
captains have been mentioning a strong current about 25 miles
off that has come into play on how they fish. This
weekend's forecast is for light winds and seas 2-3 feet.
Cherokee-
Capt. Tray Clark took out a group of 4 on a 36 hour
trip. They ended up bring back about 350 pounds of
fish. Included in the catch was wahoo, kingfish,
amberjack, ling, snapper, barracuda and rainbow runners.

General
Bay - If the winds lighten up, some of the guides have been
hitting the wells with croaker for some good catches of
trout. The reds are around with many reports of limits
from the guides, although some moving from spot to spot to find
them has been needed. There have been some reports of a
tarpon or two being seen and jumped off at the jetties along
with a good number of kings last week when the weather calmed
and tides brought clean water in.
5/24/06
- General Offshore- It is starting to look like summer out
there with all of the catches being brought to the dock.
Not many reports of weedlines out there but there is lots of
grass. Reports of big wahoo being caught around some of
the rigs around 26 miles out. Lots of snapper being caught
with an unusual amount of dog (cubera) snapper averaging 10lbs
being caught. Saw a good dolphin come to the dock last
week taken off a weedline by southern loaded with bait.
Cherokee is on a 36hr trip as I type this up, so there should be
a thorough report from him for next week.
Iced
Down - Capt. Nate has been consistently bringing in godd
numbers of fish including sow snappers, kingfish, sharks and
some large wahoo. Take a look at these trophy wahoo.

High Bid
- Capt. Aaron has been doing extremely well with the snapper
on the 8 hour trips. He even managed to bring back about
10 dog snapper on one of the trips. He is also seeing
kingfish, ling and some sharks.
Ambush- Caught
o good variety of fish on Saturday red snapper, dog snapper,
kingfish, and sharks. Dennis always seems to have a great
time on the water and can bring back a good catch.
Cabo San
Lucas- Had a great trip to Cabo San Lucas this past
weekend. We made it out three days and released 4 stripe
marlin. Three of the stripes were firsts for the
anglers. We saw about 30 marlin over the three days, but
they were not real hungry for any of the live bait. The
captain and mate were hard working with top of the line
equipment. Here are some highlights.

General
Inshore - It sounds like the recent high tides have
scattered out the redfish but have also brought some good
trout. Larry Kelley has reported a handful of redfish on
his trips but has been having more luck with the trout using
croakers. He had 25 keeper trout yesterday. Frank
Eicholz has also been catching reds with a couple of limits on
each trip and has even been releasing some oversized on a few
trips.
5/17/06 - General
Offshore- Things are starting to
turn on offshore. The boats that made it out this last
week had some great success with a variety of different
fish. Most of the fishing was for snapper, shark, ling...
There has not been any billfish/trolling trips recently.
Some of the reports that I got from captains that made it out as
far as Baker said it was green water with lots of grass.
The water ought to get better as soon as these fronts stop
coming through.
Yellowfin-
Tommy made a few trips out and had success on snapper, grouper,
and small amberjack. Check out his grouper.

High Bid - Capt. Aaron
Chambers had some excellent trips out this last week.
On one trip he caught limits of snapper, two 60lb blacktip
sharks, limit of sharpnose sharks, a dog snapper (cubera),
beeliners, strawberry grouper, chicken dolphin and about a
million triggerfish. On a trip yesterday, he brought back
10 dog snapper all about 8-10lbs, red snapper, sharks, and 2
ling up to 35 lbs.

Iced Down - Reports
from Capt. Nate Forbes are that he got into some good sow
snappers this last week. He also had a lot of amberjack
that were a little too small to keep.
Fishing Impossible - Captain
Randy Feikls made it out this weekend and brought back some
snapper, barracuda, ling, chicken dolphin and broke off a wahoo.
General Inshore- The
captains have been having good success on reds on the flats
using everything from cut menhaden to artificials.
Croakers are starting to show up at the bait stands for those
going after trout. One guide has been having good success
with the Berkely Gulp ( I wish I would get paid for the
promotion).Catch of the week was from Charles Bujan who caught
14 keeper reds on Saturday and a few trout thrown in.
5/8/06 - General
Offshore- Not a whole lot different from last
week. Some of the boats that made it out last week were
Cherokee, Iced Down, Yellowfin, Fishin Impossible and Git Er
Dun. They all brought in good numbers of snapper along
with some AJ's and sharks. Not too many boats have had any
longer trolling trips. It looks like a good push of warm water
came into about 50 fathoms. We should get some very
interesting reports in the coming few weeks.
General Bay- All of
the guides have been doing well with reds. Some of the
guides that are giving me their reports are catching limits of
reds and a few trout are Larry Kelley, David Kern, Frank Eicholz,
and Jimmy Simmons. All of the guides have been on the
water consistently and have been able to stay on the fish.
5/1/06 -
General
Offshore - It looks like everything is changing according to
the season offshore. The wind is coming from the south and
bringing lots of sargassum in the warm currents. The
good thing about it is that the warm water is getting pushed up
this way and the pelagic fish are starting to move in. For
the boats that have been making it out, they have been doing
very well. Limits of snapper are consistent along with a
very good blacktip shark bite. Many reports of ling being
brought in and even some chicken dolphin on near shore weedlines.
One boat even had a sailfish come up in their chum in 70 foot of
water.
High Bid
- Capt. Aaron Chambers has been wearing the clients out by
getting limits of snapper, multiple releases of blacktip, limits
of sharpnose, and some ling. One of the trips he caught 12
of 17 blacktip shark releasing all but one of them (125lbs).
Ambush -
Capt. Dennis Lugg made it out yesterday and brought back 5
limits of red snapper, 6 sharpnose sharks, a 70lb Ling, chicken
dolphin and even had a sailfish eating the chum on a weedline.
Iced
Down - Capt. Nate Forbes made it out a couple of times this
last week and here are the highlights in no particular order:
limits of snapper, 50lb warsaw grouper, 65lb warsaw grouper,
70lb amberjack, numerous scamp grouper, blacktip sharks,
sharpnose sharks and few ling.
General
Bay - The guides are reporting some bigger trout catches
along with the redfish this week. The bait with the most
success seems to be live menhaden and then cut menhaden.
This has been working for both reds and trout.
Frank
Eicholz - Reports that he has been having success around
the Hog Island flats with live menhaden. Usually
bring back around 2 limits of reds on the trips.
Claude
" Cowboy" Ward- Had a very productive
weekend. On Friday he brought in 11 redfish and a 26"
trout. Saturday he had 12 reds and 4 trout. Sunday's
catch consisted of 6 redfish and 14 trout for 2 people.
The trout have been between 18 and 23".
4/24/06
- General Offshore- Fishing is heating up. A lot
of boats made it out this last weekend with the opening of Red
Snapper season in the federal waters. There was a
productive weed line in about 30-35 fathoms that produced some
wahoo and chicken dolphin. Some wahoo were taken off large pods
of grass around the 26's. It seems that the winds are
backing off a little bit, so it is time to get down here and see
what you can catch offshore.
Yellowfin
- Capt. Tommy had some very productive days this weekend
making it out three days. He brought back limits of red
snapper everyday. He also managed to find a variety of
other species out there. On Saturday he caught 6
wahoo, kingfish, dolphin, ling, grouper and snapper.
High Bid
- Had some good trips over the weekend, they caught limits
of snapper up to 14lbs, along with 4 blacktip sharks between 70
and 110lbs. THey also caught their limit of
sharpose sharks both days.
Iced
Down - Capt. Nate Forbes made it out as well this weekend
with some good snapper trips. He also managed to catch a bunch
of AJ's, unfortunately they were a little bit to small.
General
Inshore - All of the bay guides se m to be doing very
well this last week. It sounds like there is a lot of
bait/menhaden moving in and the trout are following. I can
sense a little bit more excitement from the guides when asking
about their catches.
David
Kern - Has been catching limits of reds on his trips and
some very good size trout. One trout he brought in was 28
inches
Butch
Findley - Has reported good numbers and size of trout in his
catches. He always manages to get his limits of reds as
well.
Ralph
Ray - Ralph has been consitent with the redfish catches
behind Hog Island
4/17/06
- General Offshore - Not too many reports this last week
from offshore. Things should change this week with snapper
season opening on Thursday. Looking at some offshore
temperatures shows that things are warming up quickly with water
temps of 73 degrees out at the rocks. The first good
current from the south looks to be just south of the border so
it will only be a couple of weeks before it gets up in our
fishing area. When it calms down, there has been
some pretty green water coming in the jetties bringing plenty of
bait. There have been a few boats targeting the blacktip sharks
that hang around the shrimpers.
General
Inshore- The guides have had some good success on reds this
last week. It is much easier when the wind is not
blowing. Some reports from some friends that the
jackfish are aggressive early morning and late afternoon at the
jetties on lures. It helps when there is calm winds and
clean water.
Ralph Ray-
Caught limits of redfish at Hog Island. He did warn of
plenty of oysters that can cut you off, so be prepared to lose a
fish or two.
Don Miller-
Brought in 47 lbs of fish on Saturday despite the strong winds
4/10/06 -
General Offshore - Offshore has been a little windy the last
couple of weeks. Some boats have made it out there in
between the fronts withsome good results. It looks like
there have been some currents out there swirling
around. Tommy Gueldner had pretty blue water around
the 26's but then colder green water out at Southern.
Snapper season should be great in a couple of weeks when it
opens on the 21st of April. Lots of scattered grass
offshore.
Yellowfin
- Has been getting some AJ's on his trips. The wahoo
bite has slowed down, probably due to the green water.
Everything should pick up with some warmer water.
Ambush -
Had a very good near shore trip on Friday. Capt.
Dennis Lugg caught limits of state water snapper and then had
some fun with sharks, jacks and mackerals.
Iced
Down - Caught limits of Amberjack on there last trip and
then threw in some state water snapper.
Inshore-
Reds are the main story with a few guides reporting increasing
amount of trout. The water temperature is warm enough for
the baitfish to move on in. The sheephead bite continues
to be strong. One friend saw a few ling on the north jetty
and managed to hook one with a fly.
Frank
Eicholz - Has been catching 5 or 6 reds with numerous
throwbacks. Also seeing a few black drum.
Larry
Kelly - The reds have been very consistent on the
flats. He has been bringing back 2 -3 limits on his trips.
Ed
Woodhouse - Reports that there are some good size trout
starting to show up with the warmer water.
Backstabber
- The flounder are starting to come back into the bays, so
if you did not get to go out in the fall, now is the time.
Capt. Tray Clark has also been seeing a good amount of
sheephead and drum
3/21/06
- General Offshore- There have been a lot of reports
of larger wahoo being caught nears the rigs. The water
temperature is in the upper 60's around Southern and about 63
degrees a few miles inside. Some boats report seeing lots of
different species including blackfin tuna, wahoo, dorado,
kingfish, amberjack and even a large hammerhead cruising
around. With so many large wahoo being caught, we must
remember that we need to be responsible and think about the
future wahoo populations. Just remember to only keep
what you are going to eat.
3/17/06 -
Yellowfin- Numerous wahoo caught before 10:30am. Total
poundage of 481 lbs. Tommy said that the blue water was
lurking a mile or two offshore southern.
3/17/06 -
Iced Down - Capt. Nate got into the wahoo action with 16 caught
and a total of 450 lbs. He has also come across some
kingfish and amberjack.
General
Bay- Overall consensus from the bay guides was slow
fishing over the last full moon. But knowing these
guides expectations, they are not happy unless everyone limits
on every trip. They have been catching reds, drum, and
some trout. For those fishing for sheepshead, they have
been well rewarded. There have been some reports of trout
over 25" form a couple of guides. Bay fishing will be
getting better and better as the water temperatures increase.
3/7/06-
Hey everyone!!!! Just waking up from hibernation with some nice
reports.
General
Offshore-- When the boats have been able to get out there,
they have been getting into a variety of fish. The rocks
have been thick with kingfish all winter. Amberjacks have
been very numerous recently and consistent reports on wahoo.
Yellowfin
- Made it out Saturday and reported catching amberjack, a
few wahoo, kingfish and a couple of blackfin tuna.
Iced
Down - Capt. Nate Forbes just brought this boat to
town and "broke the ice" on the new boat with and
excellent trip. He brought back a very good catch of
amberjack, grouper, wahoo and tuna. Check out some of his
catch below.

Larry Kelley, Frank Eicholz, and
Jimy Simmons took out a group for a half day of bayfishing
and returned with a nice catch of redfish with some drum and
sheephead thrown in for fun. Randy Seidel reports
that he has been catching linits of reds on his trips around
Port A, but has had to travel down to the King Ranch shoreline
to find some good 20"-28" trout.
Keep checking the Fishing Report, it
will continue to be updated frequently now that the weather is
turning favorable. Now I gotta go find the fish.
1/3/06-
Happy New Year!!!
General
Offshore-
Temptation-Capt.
Matt Haworth has been out on a few different trips on his
boat yesterday he caught 7 wahoo up to 50lbs, a 51 lb Warsaw
grouper, and amberjack up to 50lbs. He said half of the
wahoo were mangled by barracuda on the way to the boat.
Matt also went on some longrange trips with the Gulf Eagle and
had some yellowfin up to 100lbs out at Boomvang and a wahoo that
was caught on Friday and weighed on Sunday that went 86
pounds. Sounds like there a re a few fish out there when
the weather is nice.
Got a
report of a boat out of Freeport that went to the floaters and
released 2 blues on New Years Eve day. One estimated at
275lbs, the other at 75lbs. Congratulations!!
El Rey- Fished
a week before Christmas and was at Southern at daybreak hoping
for the Wahoo bite. It never materialized. They did
manage a couple of nice wahoo in about 50 fathoms and picked up
some blackfin tuna at the Baker Rigs.
Yellowfin-
Tommy went out on December 23 with perfect conditions and had
one on the best days of the year for meat fish. He brought
back 14 kingfish, 7 blackfin, 7 Amberjack, and three 15lb
dolphin. The total poundage was 405lbs.
Git Er
Dun- Capt Jim fished the Baker rigs and ended up with 8
wahoo between 35 and 79 lbs. I guess you just got to hit
the right day.
Reports
from Larry Kelly and David Kearn say that the bay
fishing has been very good with lots of redfish. The recent
low tides have bunched up the fish making it easy
pickings. There have also been a large number of sheephead
at the jetties. Charles Bujan even brought a
24" Red Snapper in from the jetty.
International
reports are indicating a hot bite in Guatemala with
the sailfish. One boat reported a Christmas blue marlin
and many dolphin in Costa Rica. Panama has had some
great fishing for yellowfin and wahoo. Expect the sailfish
and marlin number to increase dramtically in the next few months
at these exotic locations.
11/07/05-General
Offshore- Not a whole lot of charters the past couple of
weeks due to weather and snapper season closing. I have
heard that there is still some good fishing when you can get out
there. Reports of some weedlines and color changes around
the rocks and offshore that are still holding some
dolphin. Some tuna have been caught in open water and
behind the shrimpers that are few and far between. I have
not heard of any billfish being caught recently, but I will not
be surprised if one or two are caught before the end of the
year. Look back at last year and you will see why.
Yellowfin-
Capt. Tommy Gueldner made it out a couple of times this last
week and found a bunch of Amberjack. He also managed to
catch some tuna, wahoo, and a good size barracuda.
General
Inshore- Good reports of redfish showing up in the
flats. There had been quite a run out at the jetties if
the seas permit.
Ralph
Ray-Limits of redfish on a few of the trips. Also
caught some oversized reds. Caught fish at both the
jetties and in the flats.

Ed
Woodhouse- Reports that the reds are back on the flats with
the cooler weather. He had a couple trips this week which
he had limits of reds within an hour. On one
of the trips he drift fished using a gold spoon and said the
action was fast and furious.
10/23/05
General Offshore- Fishing has not skipped a beat this last
week. The boats that got out there reported dolphin and
wahoo on some deep water rips. Some steady snapper and
even some good numbers of tuna. Still lots of floating
debris so do not go out in the dark. A good front this
week should only get the tuna fishing to improve as long as the
weather cooperates. There just aren't big numbers of
shrimpers out there, so finding the right boat makes it tough.
High
Bid- A couple of trips this week with some excellent catches
of tuna. 30+ blackfin on each trip with a 151 lb yellowfin
thrown in as well, just in case they did not get enough to eat.
Git Er
Dun- Got out yesterday and got into some of the tuna, as
well as snapper, barracuda and some good size sharks behind a
shrimper.
Flounder
Gigging- Both Tray Clark of Backstabber Guide Service and
Gerry Keene with the F.A.V. (Flounder Assault Vehicle) made it
out this last week. They have been bringing back 15-25
flounder per trip and are seeing numerous ones that are too
small. That means the bigger ones are not too far
behind. The cold front this week should get the flounder
run in full gear, so do not wait if you want to get out.
Ralph
Ray- Some of the best fishing this year over the
weekend. He had limits of reds and many releases Friday
and Sunday with the best success coming at the jetties.
Stayed in the bays on Saturday and managed a few decent reds and
some small trout and rat reds.
10/18/05-General
Offshore- Word from the captains is that the fishing remains
strong as long as you avoid all of the trash offshore.
There are many reports of large debris from telephone poles,
roofs, ice chests, trees, floating docks, rope and even an
iceberg. Seriously though, I would not recommend running
at night at all, or with auto pilot. A couple of boats tried to
fish the trash line at Baker but said it was too tough/dangerous
because of all the flotsam. There was a sailfish caught
around Baker and rumors of a blue being jumped off at Aransas
Rocks. Snapper are good on the rocks, especially with a
club soda and a twist of lime.
Royal
Flush-Managed a few wahoo out at Falcon. Tried to fish
the trash line but said it was too tough.
Irresistible-
Caught limits of snapper for 6pp and a 104lb shark. Better
get the snapper before the season closes at the end of the
month.
General
Inshore-School is in session at the jetties with many
oversize being caught. There were a few reports that you
caught as many reds as you had live mullet. Water has been
very pretty with the light winds. In the bays the redfish
have been sporadic with limits one day and all throwbacks the
next.
Larry
Kelley-9 slot reds, 2 oversized, numerous rats, 6 mangrove
snapper and a few trout on Sunday. Good eats from that
trip.
Backstabber-
I had the opportunity to go out with Tray on one of the
pretties nights of gigging he or I have seen. Water
clarity was better than 10 foot in most places. It was an
aquarium out there. We ended up getting a couple of limits
up to 24 inches and 6 sheephead. We were also lucky enough
to view the WWI ship wreck across from the lighthouse and what
Tray claims "the wheels of a model T Ford" at the
original Port Aransas ferry landing. I recommend getting
out there with Tray for a very unique experience.
10/10/05 - General
Offshore - The tuna are coming, the tuna are coming!!!
A few more reports on the tuna showing up behind some shrimp
boats. Big seas kept most boats in their slips last week
but a couple did manage to get offshore Saturday even with the
Texas/OU game. Dock talk has also involved the increased
amount of debris offshore, so be careful if you are running and
keep your eyes open. If you can time the weather, the
fishing is still very good. Weather looks good for this
week, so give a call to see if the tuna are still
around.
Temptation- 15
blackfin on Saturday with a few sharks and Kingfish thrown
in. On Sunday they caught 18 blackfin, 3 Wahoo (75lbs,
30lbs, 15lbs) kingfish and sharks. Looks like they found a
good shrimp boat.
General Bay-
Extremely high tides made the fishing a little bit tougher last
week until the cold front came through. Once the bays
started to dump out, the reds holed up and were easier to
catch. Look for the reds to get back into the flats and
bait to start moving with the decrease in temperatures.
Backstabber- Tray
had a couple of flounder gigging trips this last week boating 16
one night and 10 the next night. He also had a handful of
sheephead and black drum. Some of the flounder were up to
4lbs. According to his calendar, things should get
extremely hot starting next week and last through November.
10/03/05-General
Offshore- Well the hurricane did not seem to mess up the
fishing around here. Although it was not a real busy week,
there were some good catches by the boats that did make it
out. The blue water is out past 60 fathoms but there is a
lot of flying fish. One boat fished a rip offshore Baker
and pulled some chicken dolphin but did not stick around to see
if anything bigger was at home. What were you thinking
Perry? Some talk around the docks of some boats pulling
tuna from behind a shrimper. Lots of variety near shore as
well.
Royal
Flush- Do not bet against these guys when it comes to
catching billfish. They released one sail and had a blue
on for about 10 minutes before it came unbuttoned. They
were also able to boat a 50lb wahoo, and a couple of nice
dolphin to 25lbs. They fished from Baker to Falcon.
High Bid-Did
their usual meat haul by catching dolphin, limits of snapper,
barracuda, kingfish and a mix of sharks.
Yellowfin-
Reported limits of snapper and a few kings on the shorter
trips. Did catch a some nice wahoo as well over the
weekend out about 55 fathoms.
General
Inshore- Excellent weekend for the bay boats. They
have been into he schools of reds and catching some trout as
well. Some of the guys that reported great catches were:
Frank Eicholz, Ralph Ray (70lbs), David Kern (66lbs), Larry
Kelley, and Ed Woodhouse. With a norther coming this
week, it ought to get the reds in the flats and the baitfish
moving. All of the guides are excited to be getting into
the best time of year. Tray Clark has had some very good
success with the flounder gigging and bow fishing with reports
of about 15 flounder per trip along with a handful of sheephead
and black drum as well.
The Jetties
are going off right now with all sorts of action. Slot and
oversized reds have been numerous. One friend caught a
ling, tarpon and snook all in the same day standing on the
jetty. Lots of tarpon rolling with live mullet being the
bait of choice. It should only improve after a cold front
comes through.
9/26/05 - General
Offshore- A little bit bumpy this last week offshore so not
many reports. Some fish tales I did hear about before the
storm were quite interesting. One rumor of a boat that
fished a rip near the 26 mile rigs had 8 shots at sails.
Apparently released 4. Caught wahoo and dolphin as
well. Also, the redfish at some of the local jetties were
biting pre-Rita arrival. Some friends were catching all
they could with live mullet on top of the surface. I
personally saw the pelicans and frigate birds boarding up and
getting the hell out of here. I did see top buoy waves of
38 feet at 13 seconds.
9/19/05-General
Offshore- Lots of boats made it out this week and had a lot
of success. The water is green out to about 50
fathoms. It did not seem to hurt the snapper
fishing. The kingfish are not as plentiful as they were a
couple of weeks ago, but there are still some being
caught. The billfish slowed a little bit, but there was a
weedline at 65 fathoms off the rocks that produced some dolphin,
wahoo and a few blues that jumped off. Reports of whales
sharks and tuna in 150 fathoms off of Southern.
9/19/05-
Hale Yeah- Limits of snapper, a few kingfish, barracuda and
jumped a Mako shark about 250lbs. They withdrew their fish
from Aransas Bank.
9/19/05-
Royal Flush- Keeping their string alive with another
sailfish release. They missed another and also boated some
dolphin and a wahoo.
9/19/05-Cherokee-They
had a couple of good days meat fishing this last weekend.
Their catch consisted of three big AJ's up to 65lbs, a good
number of snapper, kingfish, rainbow runners, sharks, barracuda
and a ling.
9/19/05
-High Bid-Limits of snapper, bull and blacktip sharks and
some ling.
9/19/05-
Irresistible-Snapper kings and a 150lb hammerhead shark.

9/19/05-Git Er Dun-
Kingfish, snapper, bull tiger sharks, and a 5 and a half foot
blacktip.
9/19/05-Yellowfin-Limits
of snapper, some sharks. Kingfish have been a little tough
to find recently. Has caught some dolphin off of the rip
offshore.
9/19/05-Outa Control-
Fairly busy day on Saturday. Caught a wahoo, a few
dolphin, pulled the hook on a 60lb+ wahoo at the boat.
Caught a dozen or so blackfin and skipjack tuna while fishing
around some whale sharks in 150 fathoms. The picture below
has the mouth of a whale shark in the middle of it.

9/19/05-General Inshore-The
redfish have been very strong when the conditions are
favorable. Limits of redfish were brought in on Friday,
but the wind turned on Saturday which made it very difficult for
most of the guides. They still caught fish but had to work
hard at it. One report from Sunday was that there were
some huge schools in the East Flats. The schools were very
aggressive and could not be spooked. Sounds like once you
find them, it can change your day quickly.
9/12/05
- General - Not much going on this week due to the
weather. Big seas during the week and storms over the
weekend made kept most of the fleet at the docks. A few
reports from boats that made it out consisted of snapper limits,
kingfish limits, a few sharks, a couple of grouper and a
sailfish around the rocks. There are shrimp boats out
there but they are not holding any tuna yet. I guess it
needs to cool down a little bit more. Congrats to the
Cherokee for winning the STAR tournament for dolphin,
46lbs.

In the bay
it is still redfish that are the predominant catch. Some
reports of some huge schools in the East Flats.
9/06/05
- Offshore General- It is the same pattern for fishing right
now. The billfishing had been excellent with many boats
seeing and releasing agood number of sails with a few blues and
whites mixed in. The hot bite remains in about 60 fathoms
(360 feet for the landlubbers). The sails have been around
pods of bait, just a matter of time before you get one in the
spread. The meat trips are getting their share of snapper,
kingfish and dolphin.
9/06/05
- Temptation- One of Capt. Matt's trips this week returned
with limits of snapper, limits of kingfish, some blackfin tuna,
and a few dolphin.
9/06/05
- High Bid -What didn't these guys catch this week? King and
snapper limits. A good wahoo, ling, sharks dolphin and a
sailfish for good measure. I heard a rumor they had a
killer whale spit the hook.
9/06/05
- Reel Easy- Fished a rip off of Baker and caught a handful
of good dolphin, a couple of wahoo over 35 pounds and a blue
marlin attacking some chicken dolphin in the baits.
9/6/05 -
Outa Control-If the girls had been awake offshore this
weekend, they would have seen 4 sailfish released.
Congrats to Christine for her first sailfish release.

9/06/05-
Cherokee- Capt. Tray Clark was on a mission this weekend
catching anything that swam within 10 miles of the boat.
He brought in some snapper, barracuda, amberjack, dolphin wahoo,
kingfish, sailfish and a 10 point buck. Looks like they
are stocking up the fridge for a long winter.
9/6/05 -
Irresitible - Got in on the billfish action with a released
sailfish and missd a couple of blues.
9/6/05 -
Rockin and Reelin-Released 3 sailfish and 2 white marlin on
Saturday. Way to go!
9/6/05 -
Ms. Diane- Caught 2 blues and 4 sails over a couple of days
this weekend.
9/6/05 -
General Inshore- Same old story. The reds are the
center of attention for the guides. They are still
schooling up. They are also getting into some smaller
trout. Not a lot of mullet (fish) running at the jetties
yet.

- Offshore General-Excellent weather all week allowed for
the boats to get out everyday. Snapper and kingfish are
the name of the game for the shorter trips. Some
good sharks are being caught as well. Some of the
shrimpers are holding tuna but you have to travel far to get
them. The billfish have been thick in about 50
fathoms. TWAT had 29 billfish released on Saturday.
Lots of boats had numerous shots on sails, blues and
whites. Now is the time to get out billfishing, they are
schooling up. One boat reportedly had 14 shots on
Saturday, and I don't mean shots of Tequila. But come to
think of it, it was TWAT weekend.
8/29/05
- Irresistible- Limits of kingfish and snapper on this
weekend's trips. Also caught a few grouper.
8/29/05

to the south. Time to start planning your tuna trips.
8/29/05-General
Inshore- Same story for the bay fishing...if you can find
the schools of reds, it is real easy. Have to work at it
for a while if you are out of the rodeo.
8/22/05
- Offshore General- Fishing has been very good for all
species this last week. Kingfish, snapper and sharks are
the story on the shorter trips. Billfish are still around
in strong numbers on the longer trolling trips. One report
of a sail caught 8 miles out this morning on a current change.
8/22/05
- Temptation- Congratulations are in order for Capt. Matt
Haworth for putting his clients on a state record Tilefish of
23.4lbs. Shattering the old mark of 4 lbs. Also
caught snapper, kingfish, black drift fish (yea, I don't know
either) a seven gilled shark, and a scorpion fish. Where
is he fishing at?

8/22/05

of the trips. Weather is starting to get real nice again.

- Git Er Dun- Has been bringing back kingfish, ling,
snapper, sharks and a few little dophin as well
8/22/05
- Royal Flush- Released 3 sailfish on a 12 hour trip this
weekend. Way to go Capt. Chris! Also missed two
blues, actually pulled the eyeball back from one of the
blues. So if anyone sees a blue without an eyeball, that
is Chris' fish.
8/22/05
- Cherokee - One sail released this weekend out of 5
shots. Sounds like the billfish are around in strong
numbers. Also caught big snapper, kings, and a world class
bonita. Pretty work on the bonita Trey!

8/22/05

you can't find the schools, it will be difficult fishing.
A few trout are being mixed in too.
8/22/05
- Claude Ward - 11 trout and 2 reds on Friday. 6 reds
and 4 trout on Saturday.
08/15/05
- Offshore General - Despite the wind picking up, the
shorter trips have been producing limits of kings and snapper
with some good sized blacktip sharks being caught. A solid
kingfish bite on the rocks from Southern to North
Baker. Some reports of Blackfin tuna being caught
behind some shrimp boats this week. The billfish are still
around with reports of sails and blues being released from Baker
to the East Breaks. A few dolphin and wahoo thrown in for
the grill.
08/15/05

between 10-15lbs), a 35lb. ling, dolphin, lane snapper, and dog
snapper.
08/15/05
- General Inshore- Most reports from the bay guides are of
schooling redfish. If you can find the rodeo, you can get
your limits fairly quicjkly as long as you cooperate with
everyone else.
08/15/05-Ralph
Ray- Limits of reds on Saturday for a grandfather and
his 8 year old grandson.
08/08/05 - Offshore
General - Overall fishing is very good with just about every
type of fish being caught and the weather being very
cooperative. The rocks have been holding snapper and
kingfish in good numbers. Some amberjack have been coming
in off the deeper rigs at Baker. A few reports of tuna
showing up behind a shrimp boat or two. There are still
numerous rips and weedlines offshore the rocks from Falcon to
East Breaks to offshore Southern. Not a whole lot of bait
on the rips, but still some dolphin and wahoo being
caught. The majority of the billfishing took place down at
TIFT this last week with over 90 billfish released.
Largest brought to the dock was 463 lbs.
08/08/05 - Hale Yeah

number of trout to go along with limits of reds and a couple of
small blacktips.

and a few of the shrimp boat wrecks along San Jose surf.
One trout of 26 inches caught in the surf. Also hung into
a couple of blacktips.
08/1/05 - Offshore
