Queensland, Australia became the Sport Fishing capital of the world
for the mighty “Grander” Black Marlin on the 25th of September,
1966 when American crewman Richard C. Obach landed a World Record
1064# Black Marlin on 80# test line. Not only was this the first
Grander Black Marlin caught in Cairns but also the first Thousand
Pound Marlin of any kind caught on 80# test line anywhere in the
world. This made international Sportfishing history for Cairns and
Australia’s Great Barrier Reef region. Big Game Fishermen from all
over the world flocked to Cairns in subsequent years, with hundreds
succeeding in capturing their dream Billfish.. |
Whether light
tackle world record sport fishing, fly fishing, tournament marlin
fishing or conventional heavy tackle marlin fishing, Cairns is the
place to be from September to December each year when the mighty
black marlin migrate to their spawning grounds off the outer barrier
reef between Cairns and Lizard Island. |
 
"Reel Ripe"
is a 43 foot O'Brien sportfisherman built to exacting standards to
fish the waters of the Great Barrier Reef for Black Marlin.
Built in 2003 and powered by
twin 450 HP Cummins diesels, with an array of the latest electronics
she gives a distinct advantage to the angler and crew. Fully
air-conditioned with comfortable interior the time spent waiting for
the bite is not unbearable. |

1. - Live aboard
trips where you fish and stay on board the 43 foot
sport-fishing boat "Reel Ripe". She is new and very
comfortable with one stateroom plus a v-berth, two heads and
showers and has AC. All meals and refreshments including
alcohol are included in the daily rate of $2,600.
I try to keep it to two anglers to ensure a good comfort level
for all and do recommend a minimum five day trip. |

2. - Live aboard the
mother ship "South Pacific II" which is for the exclusive use of
our guests. She is 72 foot long with three staterooms and easily caters to four anglers. All chef prepared meals, refreshments including alcohol are included in the daily rate of
$5,200.
This is truly the most comfortable way to enjoy a trip of a lifetime. |
Mid September to early December is a great time to come to Cairns as it is the height of our giant black marlin season where every day there is the opportunity to hook up to a 1,000 pound black marlin. There is also good fishing around the reefs with wahoo, yellow fin tuna, dorado, spanish mackeral, dog tooth tuna and a multitude of other species to be had. |

is a classic 22 meter (72 feet) ocean going timber vessel offering a
superb standard of comfort. Equipped with stabilizers and steadying
foresail. Air-conditioned staterooms, water maker, TV and Video,
Stereo, soundproofed engines with 240 volt generators, cold room,
icemaker, extensive refrigeration and freezer capacity and state of
the art computerized electronics.
A fully qualified chef and
congenial crew ensure the after fishing activities are well catered
for. After a good days fishing what could be better than a great
